November 201170 year mark jpg marks the 70th anniversary for Blanks Printing & Imaging. Founded in November 1941 as Blanks Engraving, the company has a rich history in the creative services industry. From the company’s early years as a printing plate engraver, to becoming a nationally known and respected prepress shop, Blanks has continuously reinvented itself in order to stay relevant to its customers. The most recent stage in the company’s evolution has come over the last 20 years, as Blanks Printing & Imaging has emerged as one of the most diverse commercial printing companies in the southwest. “We have always kept our eye on the future – never content with the business at any given time, for we know that change is always down the road,” said Owner and President Leron Blanks.

Transitioning from a quality prepress shop to a commercial printer was a natural evolution as several years before entering the printing market the company had purchased a Heidelberg printing press in order to proof the film they were selling to printers across the country. “The thing that hasn’t changed over the last 70 years is the company’s focus on delivering quality that always exceeds expectations. We saw the purchase of our first printing press as simply a means to double check the quality of our work,” recalls Leron Blanks. “Once the future of the prepress market became apparent, the decision to become a commercial printer seemed like a natural next step for the company.” The transition was also made easier by the experience the company had in the prepress area. “It is amazing what a bump in quality you can get with 50 plus years of doing great prepress work,” says Vice President of Operations Kevin Schrader.

As the printing industry itself experiences significant change, Blanks has once again been looking towards the future. “We have known for several years that we cannot survive relying solely on traditional offset collateral work,” said Vice President of Sales and Marketing Mark Connor. “That is why we have invested heavily in the technology required to serve the markets that are growing.” Blanks now has a client base that touches big growth areas such as UV Offset, Large Format UV, Variable Data Digital, Packaging and Fulfillment, among others.

Today, Blanks Printing & Imaging is still family owned. For 23 years, Blanks has been a third generation company as Jeff Blanks, son of owner Leron Blanks and grandson to the founder, has been one of the company’s top sales reps and serves on the company’s executive team as Vice President.
